Why We Love Them
Owners Jennifer & Mathias Seilern have committed to running their farm under a triple bottom line philosophy, this means they take into account the economic, personal, and environmental impact of their farming. The Seilern Farm is a diversified farm, is certified organic and bio-dynamic with Eco-Cert.
What we love about this is that it is a return to how farming was done back in the day, cattle graze on pasture and move about the land, keeping the grass growing healthy and strong, the soil rich with nutrients (fertilized by the cows themselves), and the cows happy and well fed.
We found Seilern Farm grass-fed organic beef on one of our trips to St. Jacob’s Farmer’s Market in Waterloo Region, Ontario. From burgers to delicious steaks, you’ll never wonder “where’s the beef?” again.
How it works
“The crops and livestock are rotated around the farm providing biological diversity and rest for the soil. All animal manure is composted and incorporated back into the soil providing fertility and a closed nutrient cycle. This is the recipe for healthy soil and SOIL is the basis of all life. We feed the soil and the soil feeds us. Healthy soil makes healthy and tasty food.
Buffer strips and marginal areas provide protection for our crops and animals from conventional sprays. They also provide excellent habitat for birds and pollinator insects. We provide habitat for these species and in turn they set up camp here and become our resident pest control system, helping us to keep the farm in balance.”
