This month we are giving you the inside scoop on FIG, a women’s clothing line made and designed in Montreal Quebec, Canada. Their clothes are beautiful, clean and timeless design, inspired by travel. FIG currently has five lines or collections, each inspired by travel; voyage, ocean, safari, metro, and chalet.

Getting to the source
FIG pride themselves on sourcing top quality materials, making use of a mix of textiles sourced from North America. They have chosen Canadian fabrics as well as eco-friendly fabrics when they can, including organic cotton, Modal® and Tencel®. The majority of their fabric is woven and dyed in Montreal, Quebec. The clothing is cut, sewn and finished in their Canadian factories located in Ontario and Quebec. The business model of sourcing and producing locally allows them to support other local businesses and reduces the distance traveled by their clothes to their consumers, ultimately reducing their carbon footprint.

MicroModal / Modal: The two are very closely-knit, the only difference being the fineness of the fibers produced with MicroModal being finer in comparison to Modal. Modal and MicroModal are typically made from beech wood and depending on the type of application rayon can be engineered to perform better than cotton.
Tencel: Made from the natural cellulose found in wood pulp. The fiber is economical in its use of energy and natural resources, and is fully biodegradable. Tencel is made from cellulose in wood pulp, which is harvested from tree-farmed trees.
Giving clothing a ‘Second Life’
FIG participates in the ‘Second Life’ program, which encourages them to create inventory management solutions that limit waste after each production run. The decision to take part in such a program will push their design, sourcing, and marketing teams to be more creative and innovative.
