Our top picks from Veg Food Fest 2017
We aren’t exactly vegetarians here at Genuine North, but we do believe that everyone should be able to live their best lives. When we went to Veg Food Fest in Toronto, we went with open minds, hearts, and empty stomachs, ready to mow down on some delicious vegetarian and vegan fare. Our goal, to find a handful of new brands to add to our curated lists. We needed to discover brands and products in the Clothing, Personal care, and Eats categories.
We came away with twenty new brands to add to the site including some for the Pet category and some wonderful made in Mexico clothing. If you followed the event on Instagram you’ll see that Apiecalypse Now was the fan favourite winner of the weekend, with hundreds of people posting their sweet scores on social. We took in BRGR KVLT, an extension of the Apiecalypse Now – Vegan Pizza and Snack Bar. A delicious time was had by all, we hope you enjoy the photo gallery, we are going to be sharing our favourites and working to add the brands to the site soon!

Clothing
Little by Little IC / @littlebylittleic
Connecting amazing people with compassionate ideas
Actually more of a vegan lifestyle brand, the people at Little by Little IC offer plant-based nutrition coaching, concierge style services, professional assistance, and apparel. We loved their the life affirming and positive messaging on the Little by Little Ic apparel they were selling that day. They have also chosen to use Bella+Canvas, as Los Angeles based clothing company making eco-friendly US-made T’s, tanks and more. The shirts are perfect for everyday wear, they support a vegan lifestyle while not shaming those who may not.
BeetXBeet / @beetxbeet
Vegan t-shirt line dedicated to spreading awareness about healthy lifestyle’s and the environmental issues surrounding our society.
A little more rock and roll, the BeetXBeet brand is for vegan’s with a little edge in their style. The slinky tanks, crew neck sweaters and the super trendy ‘worn’ look T. We loved the “Plant Slayer” sweater, perfect for the coming fall weather, or toss it on after a session at the gym.
Personal Care
Sudsatorium / @sudsatorium
Plant power to the people
Organic fair trade and locally sourced ingredients come together to make some awesome personal care items. At the event we tried the lip balm ‘Orange You Glad It’s Chocolate’, it went on smooth and felt so luxurious. Ultimately we took home their ‘Royals’ toner water, with Canadian winter around the corner any additional defense against dry face is more than worth a try. We love that it is made with locally sourced Ontario organic Lavender as the first ingredient.
The Green Beaver Company / @the_green_beaver
Purely Canadian
The Ontario, Canada based company makes castile liquid soaps for household cleaning made from sunflower oil, and ‘junior beaver’ personal care products made with plant based ingredients. Their products are vegan, biodegradable, gluten free, cruelty free, and GMO free, which leaves nothing but the good stuff. We love that several of their products are multi-use and come in unscented for those of us who may not be a fan of all the fruit and flower scents out there today. You know there is nothing wrong with the smell of good old-fashioned clean!
Eats
BRGR KVLT / @brgrkvlt
Really good, sincere, earnest vegan food.
We were sold on veg food fest when we saw ‘Wolves in the Burger Room’ burger on their facebook page. So when we arrived at the fest with empty stomachs we searched out BRGR KVLT for our lunch time fill. As you know sharing is caring, so we opted to split both the ‘Wolves in the Burger Room’ burger and the Bunn O))). We fell in vegan love with the portabello quinoa paddy in the Bunn O))) burger and will now be hunting down BRGR KVLT wherever they go the rest of the year. Sadly there is no permanent location, so you have to be dedicated to get your hands on their deliciousness.
In their own words “Brought to you by the gluten-worshiping demi-demons at Apiecalypse Now! BRGR KVLT is the only place you can get your hoves on a 100% KVLT BRGR–forged and tested in Toronto Canada, it is the original, and sincerely 416 (and to a lesser extent 647) vegan (dis)comfort food.”
Loon Komucha / @loonkombucha
Brewing delicious kombucha tea in cottage country!
The G-Team started their day out right with a refreshing glass of violet lemongrass from Loon Kombucha. We are big fans of the drink and have been enjoying it for the last five years or so. When we came across this Perth, Ontario based brand and saw that they’d come up with some unique flavours, we knew we had to try them out. While they do carry traditional lemon ginger, the sour apple, rose chai and blue pomegranate were a welcome change. Available by the growler, Loon Kombucha is only available in the Perth area, Ottawa, Kingston etc. Or by special order, not yet available online, but follow their Instagram account or visit their website to find them at events around the province.
